Dogs and Cats!
Ever feel like your house is full of dogs and cats that don't always get along? Sometimes I do. The setup I have one older cat and one young cat about 10yrs and 2yrs old. They got along pretty well. Then I and my spouse found ourselves with a puppy who had been abandoned and needed a home. The pup Meatball has struggled to get along with the cats, he chases, stared, sniffs and occasionally paws at them occasionally.... its a struggle at times but Meatball is a little over 1 and has slowly been getting along better with the cats. The old cat (Sweety) stands his ground and they usually can stand being in the same room but the young cat (Spice Nugget or Spicy for short) usually runs and that then causes a chase and a loss of my sanity. My spouse doesn't think this is a problem and says they should figure it out. Problem is the cats are 8lbs and 12lbs and the dog is 60lbs... and the cats generally don't use their claws. Anyway so we have a friend over and I get a plate of food and then let everyone else know to get food and I grab the dog collar with one hand and eat with the other. Spicy runs into the kitchen and I ask my spouse to put away the cats as I have the dog and he decided he wasn't hungry and wasn't eating anyway. (The cats are known thieves so we usually put away food right away as they are quick to check the counters for food.) So my spouse is on their phone and I'm trying to eat and hold the dog. And after I see the Spicy run to the kichen I ask my spouse if they could take care of it. Doesnt respond. I wait a minute while I take a bite to eat. And now I see Spicy is on the counter ( my spouse says Spicy is not but I have better eyesight so I know I see her. And finally my spouse goes to check despite not seeing Spicy on the counter and getts Spicy off the counter and puts away the food. Like I dont think it was that difficultconsideringI was already trying to eat and hold the dog from chasing Spicy. Was it wrong of me to ask? Should I have just taken care of it myself. Was it wrong to ask for help when company (good friend) was around? Idk I asked my spouse about it later and we disagree on how it should have been handled. We don't have kids but if we did I feel as if I would have to wrangle everything myself. Anyone else feel that way? Any thoughts or suggestions for improvements for cats and dogs that dont get along the best? Should I have really need to ask for help multiple times? Or is that too much to expect from a spouse to notice my hands are literally full?
