Thank you guys for your responses. The side effects for the narcotic are incredibly alarming and dangerous. My doctor had a very serious conversation with me and that's why I got scared. 
I ended up buying some CBD gummies and it seems to have calmed the pain, so hopefully I don't have to take the dangerous pills. I appreciate every comment. Thank you!
Hi lovelies, I have bent discs from a fall from years back and every so often I have a pain flare up. I was prescribed Hydrocodone and Prednisone after a muscle relaxer didn't work, but reading the warning for side effects and an explanation from my doctor and pharmacist I'm really questioning if I should take them or if I should look for holistic methods as I've done in the past. The pain has me not being able to get up from bed, sitting or even walking comfortably, but I really don't want to take higher risks. Would you take these medications? Have you taken them in the past? Were the side-effects as bad as it warns?

If you take the hydrocodone short term and follow the directions (including only taking as needed), the risk of addiction is much lower. Also, liver damage is highly unlikely with short term use when following directions. If concerned, start with half a tablet instead of a whole one. 
Prednisone does have some short term effects, such as insomnia (most commonly when taken in the evening), increased appetite, stomach upset (helped by taking it with food) and weight gain. This is weighed against the benefit of reducing inflammation that is likely causing the pain. 
I have taken both of these meds before, and in situations such as this I absolutely would again and recommend it for others who need it.

I would definitely take the meds you were prescribed. It's so hard to get opioids so your condition must be really bad. I was in a terrible car accident and they refused to give me anything but ibuprofen. The side effects to the hydrocodone aren't really anything. The worst thing that could happen is you could become addicted if you were to take them for long periods of time. We're talking like over a month at the very earliest. I personally don't like taking that specific steroid but if the doctor prescribed it I would try taking it and if you don't like the way it's affecting you then I'd stop taking it.

I had back surgery when I was 18. If I throw out my back, I will absolutely take medication as it is prescribed. 
Do I prefer a non-narcotic approach, yes, but sometimes it is unavoidable. 
All medications, when looking at side effects, are fucking scary. Even birth control has a long and terrifying list. 
I understand the hang up, but personally, I would rather take the medication as prescribed, heal the pain, and then continue with non-medicated ways to help the injury.

I personally have all kinds of back issues as well, but I try and not take medication and hold off as long as I can, if it gets that bad, I’ll take Advil, or use lidocaine roll-on, like Aspercreme, which is a topical, if it’s really that bad, then take the medication Prednisone may make you gain weight, crave, it does come with side effects. I took prednisone for an allergic reaction to some thing. It started at my feet and worked its way up to my belly, and they had me on different amounts of prednisone for two months, and I gained 60 pounds and two months I swelled up like a balloon from the medication, but everyone has different side effects. Pain medication’s can deteriorate your brain cells, cause you to crave sweets, and then, taking in long doses, can affect your liver, etc. so you need to take the good with the bad and figure out what you need to do, whether that is Cortizone injections or epidurals or surgery in the long run or physical therapy or chiropractor or massage therapy, obviously living with this for the rest of your life is going to be difficult so you’re gonna need to figure out a game plan. Long-term and short term. But if you’re really in that much pain, take the medication. or take over-the-counter medication, if you can, or do what you must
