The best way to know that baby is getting enough is by looking at wet diapers. 6+ wet diapers per day means they are getting enough. When bottle feeding, baby needs about 1-1.25oz per hour (so if itâs been 2h since their last feed, 2-2.5oz is all theyâd need.) Look up âpace fed bottlesâ for info on a bottle feeding method that more closely mimics breastfeeding. It helps avoid over feeding and bottle preference. Whenever baby gets a bottle, you should pump around the same time to maintain your supply. If you are pumping between nursing sessions and not missing feeds (eg 10:00 feed, then pump, then feed again at 12:00 without giving any bottles) itâs normal to get 0.5-1oz total. Anything more than that is oversupply. If you want to build a stash, itâs best to start with something low suction like a Haakaa to collect letdown while youâre feeding on the opposite side. That way you can collect enough for a few bottles over the course of a few days, but wonât encourage overproduction. Donât forget that whatever you feed baby in a bottle youâll be replacing by pumping while youâre apart anyway.
