Alum powder as spermicide

I know I’m very very dumb but I had read that along with being used to make the vagina feel tighter, that alum powder can be used as a spermicide. Does anyone know how effective this is? I don’t plan on doing it again but it’s all I had on hand after my boyfriend failed at pulling out in time. Just looking for anyone’s experiences with this I guess
