Am I just a “cuffing season” placeholder?

Cecilia

I've (24) been dating a guy (31) I met on Hinge for about 3.5 months. He's funny, gentlemanly, and we have pretty solid chemistry, but he lives 3 hours away in Dallas. We see each other every other weekend, and he's introduced me to his friends and mom pretty early on.

However, I've been worried that our connection is mainly sexual, and i’m worried our conversations lack depth (side note, my last relationship was really intense and full of deep but also stressful conversations, so maybe it’s not the worst thing.) I was hesitant to discuss where our relationship is heading, but I finally brought it up. Recently, I met his brother and his longterm girlfriend + her friends, who were all friendly. When I asked him about how he was feeling about our relationship, he vaguely said things felt good and were "proceeding." On New Year's Eve, my best friend asked him about being exclusive and making things official with me, and his response was "it's coming."

we’re doing a lot of relationship coded things, he’s pushing for me to get my passport so we can travel, but that feels too far into gf territory without the commitment.

Now I'm unsure about how long I should wait for this relationship to become more serious and am concerned about being just a placeholder. Men are territorial, he’s witnessed men ask if i have a bf at bars, why wouldn’t he want to “lock me down” yet? 🙃
