Need help!! Interior design

So, I just moved into my small 2 storey 3 bedroom house. All the rooms are around the living area & dining area.

I’m using second hand (from my grandmother & father) furniture! Right now I have a love seat & arm chair in my living room. I’m not sure what kind of couch to order. A small sectional or a sofa. 🙃 also, I’d like to get a smaller table that could make the space feel bigger? I have 2 kiddos.

Any ideas?? (The front door entrance is right beside the front window, kitchen is the second opening, I’m standing in the side entrance doorway/stairs to basement)
