Newborn with jaundice
My baby is 8 days old and has jaundice due to him having G6PD and I breastfeed so that takes longer for the jaundice to go away. When we left the hospital last Thursday the bilirubin levels were at 11. Today we met with a pediatrician who didn’t think the bilirubin levels increased because according to her he looks fine. She didn’t want to test him but I had them test his bilirubin levels today and I see that they increased to 14, he tested after the appointment so I didn’t get the chance to speak with her about the increased level. She said the concern is after 22.
I have an older son who had jaundice and he was put under phototherapy before we left the hospital. With this baby they didn’t give him phototherapy and I feel like they should have before we left the hospital. I live in the north east and we barely have sun. If we had sun I would put him to the window to help the levels go down.
My concern is that since the level didn’t decrease and instead increased, should I take my son to the emergency room at children’s hospital to get evaluated and get a second opinion? Bilirubin levels that are high affects the liver so I’m worried that the levels can increase more and they’re not monitoring it. His next appointment isn’t until February.
