So I’ve been dating this guy for about three months now and I really like him, just to give you insight we’re not in a title relationship currently still in the dating phase. We’re both Christian by religion and have many things in common and we’re always learning and teaching each other new things and learning new perspectives. Today whilst having Bible study it mentioned not following people and instead following God and he casually dropped that he was a republican and he talks about how he supports Trump all the time. While I didn’t react to it intentionally I was a little taken aback because while I’m not that into politics, I support a lot of democratic views. I told this to my friend group and they automatically said to drop him because if our political views don’t add up we won’t work well together as a couple. I’m not sure what to do because I do really like him and I don’t know if political views should keep people from being together. (For context though we’re both black and in our 20s both born in the Caribbean and living in the states because I know this is important to some people)
