Geriatric pregnancy at 36?

Hello, beautiful people of Nurture! Yesterday, I had my first ultrasound and was told that I am 3 weeks further along than I expected. I was also informed that I need to undergo genetic testing. Additionally, I was informed that at 36, my pregnancy is considered geriatric (for anyone over 34). Have any of you been told this during an ultrasound? And has anyone else been advised to have genetic testing during an ultrasound? This has worried me, as I'm wondering if the technician noticed something. What are your thoughts on this?

Hi there! I’m pretty sure this is standard for anyone 35 and over. I’m 12 wks and 39 years old. Just had my NIPT screening done and have my first trimester nuchal ultrasound/meeting with a genetic counselor  next wk (not because they found anything abnormal in my NIPT results). My friend just had a baby at 35 and she had to see a specialist in addition to her regular OB bc of her age. I think it’s just extra precaution due to our age and being more likely to have genetic abnormalities. Don’t stress! Sending you all the positive vibes!

Yes, I am 37 and also called geriatric lol. I am 3 months pregnant and Genetic testing is very common whether you are geriatric or not but since we are in our upper 30’s we just need to be more cared for and that is a standard. I was advice to take a baby aspirin every day to prevent preeclampsia even though my blood pressure levels are in the low numbers. Stay positive and DONT WORRY! Enjoy your pregnancy new mama!

My doctor told me while TTC there we should have the testing. I think it’s standard now given age of mom

I went through this exact thing with my first pregnancy (at 34/35). It was scary as hell. But all ended up being absolutely fine and now have a very healthy 4 year old boy. Try not to stress, as hard as I know that is. Chances are more likely that everything is fine vs not.
