Question

Are there any travel systems that have convertible car seats (car seats that can be rear facing and front facing)? If so, any recommendations? I have been looking at travel systems and it seems like the car seats are all rear facing.

That doesn't exist. Convertible seats are staying in the car.

Travel systems are only for infant seats, which are all rear facing. If you want a car seat that goes rear and forward facing you need to buy a convertible seat separately. 
Infant seats are handy, but not necessary, so to save money I would suggest buying a nice convertible seat that can be used for newborns (like the Nuna Rava), then buy a stroller that has a bassinet option so your baby can be flat, rather than a travel system.

I don’t know any convertible ones but we loved the graco snugride 35? (Might not be what it’s called it’s been a while) but what we liked is it clips into all graco strollers and the weight limit is up to 30-35lbs and 30 inches so you can use it longer! This was especially great because our first was a little chunker
