I know my girlfriends dad had a very serious stroke 13 days ago and is now on a ventilator, feeding tube and pacemaker maker and I know she’s been down nearly daily spending all day with him and I know that keeps her busy but I feel like she’s becoming more and more distant with me since this happened and I’m worried we are gonna break up

So I am going to send this to her

I know today is a lot, and I understand that, are you okay though? You seem/ feel distant today. More so than ever the last few days.

Don't be like that. You sound annoying and needy and insecure when she's going through a really heavy traumatic experience. Not everything is about you. Be supportive.

You're not going to break up soon unless you make this about you. She's not OK because her father is sick and possibly could die from this, so imo that's a really stupid question to ask. Of course she is not OK. She is taking time to focus on her family right now. You need to give her that space and doing so will support her in the way she needs. She will be grateful for that. If you make this about you, she's going to dump your ass and you would deserve it. Cool your jets. Take some deep breaths. Find something else to do with your time. Send her a text saying you're thinking about her and her family and love her lots. And that's it.

Honestly, if it was your parent, wouldn’t you want your partner to be there for you?  On the contrary, instead of complaining, you should be there with your partner, supporting your partner, getting them comfort food, i’m being there for them. That’s what a relationship is, when people go through hard time, being supportive. If your parent was close to death, on a ventilator, etc. wouldn’t you want somebody there for you, otherwise, you’re just abandoning that person in the worst time. That’s not fair to them. I would be at the hospital, getting them dinner, giving them a night off, if they do want to take one and making them dinner or taking them dinner, being of comfort, that’s what you’re supposed to be doing not thinking about yourself and are we going to break up. if the parent passes away, don’t make it about you, it’s about them, and being there for them, allowing them to grieve, being a shoulder to cry on, not abandoning them when they need you most. Get over the situation, it’s not about you, and go be there for them. I’m sure they would appreciate it. of course they’re being distant, all they are thinking about right now is the person laying in the hospital bed. Everything else is on the back, burner, relationships, job, etc. because that right then and there is the most important thing. Being there for that person so they don’t have guilt and regret if that person passes and they weren’t there for them or they die alone. Etc. if this is the person, you truly want to be with, then you’re gonna have to get off your behind and go be with them and be there for them and comfort them, if they pass away, be there for them, comfort them, be there for the family, and try and be helpful. let them vent, let them scream in anger, let them whatever it may be, until they can come to a place of understanding and acceptance of what happened. They’re probably angry that this even happened, they’re probably overthinking what they could’ve done differently to save them, or to prevent it from happening, there’s probably  a million things going through their mind right now. Stop focusing on yourself, your own needs, and go be there for them. I’m sure they would appreciate it.
