How To Handle - Being Walked On
I’m going to try to keep this as short as possible, part of it is to vent before I explode and the other part is to get some advice. I have worked in the service industry for a long time, I am 32 (went from helping care for elderly) to working for a restaurant. The only reason I’m staying at this job is due to the daily pay and because I don’t have to wait two weeks for a check.
Situation: I was working -to go- at my place of employment, for 5 months. I wanted to be a server to make more money. They refused to move me due to “I was just too efficient at my job”. Fast forward, we have a new GM, and now they want to put me as a server. When I worked -to go- I was closing every single night I work. Which means I wouldn’t get home till 11. Because that’s where they needed me. On the rare days I didn’t close I still stayed till 10 because “we were busy” or manager waited to cut me due to “they needed me”. I’ve put up with it.
Now finally they moved me to serving, yay! When I talked to the GM I told him I was excited because I was getting worn out from all the closing shifts. And to not feed me to the sharks/wolves when I first start serving by myself! My first two weeks of serving, I’m closing. I also got 6 tables at one time the first day of serving and 7 the second day, which included 2 parties of 7 and one of 10. With all you can eat going on. First night of serving, I didn’t get home till 1. 2nd night of serving i didn’t get out till 2:30. Last night I worked 10 and a half hours with 1 five minute break!
I’m a mom and I’m exhausted from this! I’m trying to find a better job and can’t really afford to quit till I have another.
How would you handle this crap?
