Induction at 39 weeks?

Hi everyone, 
Just had a routine appt and asked what week they would want an induction. 
I was surprised to hear at 39 weeks. 
I am not happy with this and I’m curious if anyone  had a doctor suggest induction.

They say there is increased risk of still birth at our age…I’ve had 5 deliveries…3 were inductions.  My Rissy induction was because of bleeding/partial abruption…but the second and third was the doctors recommendation and I had a retained placenta and hemorrhage with each induction….i know the first one was necessary but I always wonder if the complications with the last two were because my body wasn’t really ready to deliver yet.  It’s hard when they make you feel like you might harm your baby by not going with the induction.

Induction should only be suggested if there is a medical reason (gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, IUGR, etc.). You can ask why they are wanting to schedule and go from there. Just being “older” is not a reason. I hate to say this, but if you don’t educate yourself, it’s very easy to be taken advantage of. Unnecessary induction increases the chance of c-section, which =$$ for the MD. I pray this is not the case, but I know plenty of OBs who push for this out of convenience and it’s not right. I always come from the notion that my body knows what to do and when to do it. Unless it fails me or I have a medical reason, I wouldn’t choose induction. Best of luck to you. 🙂
