Quit my job ??

Question

Do you think it’s dumb that I want to quit my job because of public speaking ?? 
I work at a bank and I’ve worked there for 3 years. 
All of a sudden, my manager is saying that we all have to go to schools and do a presentation about something to do with banking. And we also have to go to businesses and do the same thing with the employees and try to get them to open accounts with us. 
We have never had to do this in the 3 years I have worked there. But she said they stopped after Covid but are starting it up again. 
I have social anxiety and feel like I’m gonna have a panic attack just thinking about it. I told her I’m not comfortable doing it and she said that everyone has to do it. 
I’m really considering finding a new job. I don’t enjoy working there anyway. 
Any advice.

I would absolutely quit my job over that. 😅 I wouldn't be able to stand the anxiety & panic attacks from that all the time. Go where you're comfortable!

It’s not worth staying at any job where you’re not happy. I wouldn’t put my notice in until I found another job though - that’s the one personal rule I always follow!

I used to suffer with this, all through school, the first 10 years of work, then 5 years ago when I took this job, I was told I would have to do presentations and meeting with the likes of leadership….😱 I also just wanted to quit, but I did it anyways, I was clearly nervous on my first few, shakey voice, lots of “urrrs” and “urns”, go bright red, but now, I don’t mind, I remind myself that I’m doing the meeting because I know what I’m talking about, I’m telling them what to do and what the deal is,(and without sounding bigheaded) I tell myself im the smartest there, they need to listen to me because I’m the one that knows the topic. I found meetings over zoom were better in the first place so if you don’t have to go on camera they cant physically see you cock up 😃and you can blame the internet connection 😅 but I don’t mind doing face to face now. read the book “feel the fear and do it anyway” and look up YouTube videos on how to speak publicly, there’s loads of little hints and tips. If you’ve got anyone at work who speaks really well ask them for help, practice In front of them, get feedback, and progress, don’t let something like this get in the way of your future! Be confident lady! It’s in there you just got to bring it out, good luck x

First off before you quit your job make sure you have another job lined up

1. If you have actually anxiety then please seek therapy ( saying this in love) so you don’t place these walls infront of you. 2. Yes if something gave me a panic attack I would def want to quit! I don’t blame anyone for wanting to or for doing so! 3. I still encourage trying to overcome it even if it takes years because you never know if a situation  like that comes up again

Start looking for another job, while you do that try the public speaking, you might actually be good at it! We're not all naturally comfortable with it but for some people, they feel very nervous at first and then the more they do it, the more their confidence builds and then they actually enjoy it. We can't always shy away from things that we don't like and being driven by fear is no way to live.

Have another conversation and tell her that due to the severity of your symptoms when it comes to doing this you may have to hand in your notice and see if she can compromise if not then leave

I would quit too! I have the same fear. I work at a major bank and was volunteered to present to the CEO with about 10 others. Told my boss never to volunteer me again for anything like that or I’m out 😅
