Birth Control Breakthrough Bleeding
Alright. I’m very confused and frustrated. I’ve been on the same pill for YEARS, and within this last year I’ve been having problems with it. I’ve always taken my pills around the same time every day, always doing the hormonal pills and then placebo pills to have my period. I then transitioned to having my period by taking the placebo pills once every three months (I have 3 month supply of pills and skip my period because I can 2 of the 3 times). It was working just fine for me for a while. But then around January I started to have breakthrough bleeding during one of the months where I skip my period and take the hormonal pills. I consulted my doctor and they said that things could be thrown off by changes such as exercise, which I had been doing more of. Because the bleeding dark old blood continued for a good while, when it came to my placebo pill week, I took them as I thought that maybe I could fix things by having my period. When it came to the time after I had my period, and I started taking the hormones again, I had no breakthroughs. Since then I’ve been having my periods every month without skipping. Now recently, I had my period, but I’ve been taking the hormonal pills over a week now, and my bleeding is still bright red. I’ve been bleeding for 10 days. It’s really starting to piss me off. I’ve been cramping too so it’s making the situation worse. Usually when I start taking the hormonal pills again it takes about 3 days for the period to stop completely. I’ve been taking them for a week and it’s still going strong. Now I’m at a loss and don’t want to pay for a consult with my gyno. I’ve never had sex before so there’s no chance of pregnancy, or any form of STI. The only thing I’ve had before that might be of a pertinent history is that a while back I had very menopausal like symptoms, hot flashes at night and nausea around the time of my period. (I am also 20 years of age as well for those who are wondering). I had those events line up with two periods but never could figure out what was going on there. Nothing has really changed in my routine so I’m very thrown off. Anyone experience something like this or know what might be going on?
