Would you talk to the principal?

My daughter called me in tears at school. Shes been on probation from cheerleading because grades. She needs to get her grade up to a C or she can't go through the cheer competition this weekend. She turned in an essay that was late to her teacher and asked her teacher if she could grade it and she said the teacher told her she will get to it when she gets to it. My daughter told her the importance of it and she needs her grade up today. The teacher told her not to expect to have her grade updated today and my daughter was calling me crying so I reached out to this teacher. She told me that my daughter turned the essay in a month late and she didn't have to accept it at all and that late work is not her top priority. I told her she really wants to go to cheer competition and she can't with a D. She told me that she can't turn work in late and expect her to grade it right then and there. I asked if she could make an exception and she is basically telling me no and that my daughters month late essay is not her top priority when she has other stuff to grade. Should I just rope in the principal at this point because my daughter is devastated. I understand.  My daughter turned it in late. But giving the circumstances I don't understand why she can't just grade it for her.

“Given the circumstances,” your daughter is not entitled to have people drop everything because she suddenly decides something is important enough to prioritize it herself. She can’t expect people to jump because she asks them to. Count this as a lesson learned for her.

No, do not go to the principal or anyone above the teacher.  Your daughter was aware she was on probation and still turned in her assignment late.  Not just a little late…a month late.  There is absolutely no reason for  the teacher or anyone else, including you, to cater to her.  Use this as a lesson learned/teaching moment for her that she’s not entitled to anything and people and the world don’t stop for her when she decides something is important.  Help her learn to prioritize if she doesn’t want to feel such devastation in the future.

No...just no. Your daughter is on academic probation. Based on this she knows she is on acedemic probation yet she still turned in a paper a month late. My 5 yr old knows actions/bad choices have consequences which is what academic probation is supposed to be teaching. She chose to turn something in 4 weeks late and.her consequence is she might have to wait for a grade/miss a competition. You getting involved with the principal is absurd levels of entitlement honestly and teaching your kid instead of being thankful the teacher took it at all if you don't get what you want complain until you do. A cheer competition isn't life or death or her graduation or missing an acedemic event. If it really was important she should have turned it in weeks ago or better yet on time. And even if you try to use the admin to bully a teacher to grade it asap whobsays it will be enough to move her grade....its a month late. Points will surely be taken off for lateness already so if its bullied into grading and your daughter still has a D then what? You gonna pitch a fit over her not being able to go? Teach her responsibility and consequences. If she was legit trying her hardest...has a turor, working with teachers for extra credit, making sure every assignment is turned in on time and well checked, etc maybe but she is on probabtion for her grades and still turning in things that late. Her grades are more important than her cheer and if she wants to do it she should focus on whats important instead of handing in a super late assignment at the last minute then getting upset because she isn't getting what she wants.

I have a hard time believing this is real. Your daughter turned her assignment in a month late. She knew what was at stake, she obviously didn’t care enough or she expected everyone to cater around her, which sounds like you are in agreement with. This is her own fault she needs to deal with the consequences. This is not the teachers fault. Kind of unbelievable you are thinking of bringing the principal into this too

You're raising an entitled child and it's easy to see why. Actions have consequences. She made the poor decision to not turn in her work on time, not just late but an entire MONTH late, and now she needs to deal with the consequences. She's a teen and pleanty old enough to know when to turn in her work and that playing stupid games wins stupid prizes. She made her bed and needs to lay in the bed she made. There are no "circumstances" that need to be considered. If she was more responsible she wouldn't have this issue. If competing was that imprudent to her she would have gotten her paper in on time. You're wanting her to have special privileges and get an exception that NO ONE ELSE will get just because she wants to go to competition. You're both full of entitlement. The two of you are the type that teachers hate to deal with.

No absolutely not, you need to be a parent and use this as a learning experience for your daughter then she can’t have it all her way there is consequences, the teacher could have failed her there and then
She was late turning in a paper knowing she need to pass and couldn’t even make the effort to do that

Can I ask you a question..? You're her parent, right? What is most important to you, her grades and that she does well academically or her chear? I understand that it's upsetting that she is currently upset and crying at school, but I feel she hasn't been prioritizing her schoolwork so this is just a "You get what you work for" kinda thing. And it sucks, but do better next time kid..
