White noise

Hello there! Can you please tell me all about the white noise for example… when should I use it? For how long should I keep it on? What age should I stop it for my baby? Do you recommend it or not? I brought this machine where it has lullabies and white noise, my baby girl ia 3 months old which should I use? And can I use it for my 5 year old? Does a baby get used to it to go to sleep or I can stop it easily?
