Haakaa doesn’t work well for me?

Had my baby this week, my milk came in
1 day pp and I’ve been engorged/leaking last couple days. I can collect some milk by manually expressing it out into the haakaa but when using the suction, it doesn’t hang on super well and only a drop or two comes out. This is my second baby, had the same issue with my first. 
I don’t know what I could be doing wrong. Does a Hakkaa just not work on everyone? Anyone else have this issue?

Well looks like I’m the outlier here but I loved the haaka. I used it (on approval from my midwife) to help draw out colostrum at 38 weeks to collect before I gave birth because of the light suction. When breastfeeding, I only used it as a catcher to catch any milk that would leak out of the alternate boob at the same time that my baby was feeding on the other one, but you have to be careful not to use any suction as that’ll draw milk out, you just want to use it as a little catchment for any milk that will naturally leak out the opposite side so it’s not wasted. Yes you could just use a jar or something but I found the funnel shape of the haaka easier to catch milk. I also used light suction when I felt like I may have been getting a clogged duct and never had any. There’s two versions of the Haaka, make sure you’re getting the V2 which comes with a suction base to stop it tipping over, and not the original version which is smaller and less stable. I definitely had better luck with the V2.

It didn’t work at all for me as a milk catcher. I wanted to try it because my baby was only feeding on one side per feed. No luck!

I have never had a ton of luck with the Haaka. I waited until, I think, five weeks PP to give it a shot. I collected maybe a couple of ounces? I was a little sad because I really thought it was going to be my BFF 🤣 I might try again for morning catches…

That thing never worked for me. Other people I knew loved it. I never understood why.

Btw. IBCLCs even advise against using a haaka the first few pp weeks and most definitely against pumping on top of nursing.

Haakaa isn’t really a pump it’s more of a milk catcher. Might want to get a breast pump through your insurance or a manual breast pump which is cheaper.

There is no reason what so ever to use the Hakka. Just nurse baby. Do not use a pump on top of nursing. That will make everything worse and cause a major over supply with serious complications.
