French bulldog breed question :)
French bulldog parents: what dog food do you feed your fur babies? Have you found they do react very poorly to certain common dog food brands?
I have been looking into adding a French bulldog, frenchton or Boston terrier to our family since October. I’ve been reading information about them constantly as I’ve never owned either breed. I’m aware of the possible breathing issues and it’s been a little bit of a hang up for me. I’m leaning more towards a Frenchton since they are a mix, and the ones I’ve seen do not seem to have as flat of a nose.
But recently I came across info about their diet. I feed my 2 dogs now (12 year old lab/golden mix and 8 year old American Staffordshire terrier) Pedigree Chicken and Rice or Grilled Steak and Vegetables. They were on 4health but stopped eating it: we tried a few other brands and this one they seemed to really like so we’ve stuck with it the last few years.
The brands I’m seeing recommended for Frenchies seem to be really expensive, such as Blue Buffalo and Royal Canin.
I don’t want people to be angry with me for not willing to spend top dollar on dog food: I take care of my current pets who are all happy and healthy and on their way to their senior years. We are pretty financially ok but spending $40-$50 on an 8lb bag of dog food regularly will change our current monthly budget quite a bit.
If frenchies do require a very expensive, high end dog food, I may need to finally really reconsider our breed choice.
