Benefit of an oversupply
Im 8 weeks postpartum and just sent off my 500th oz of milk to my local milk bank. When I was immediately postpartum I had a wild oversupply of well over 50oz a day in addition to what my baby was eating. I managed to reach a place where I am comfortable with my oversupply (I save about 30oz a day) and I am able to donate 200+ oz every 2 weeks and hope to continue for at least the next 12 months. NICU’s across the US are experiencing a huge shortage of breastmilk so if you’re able to donate through a legitimate milk bank vs private donations, please consider it!
The process of becoming an approved donor was incredibly easy, I just needed approval from my doctor, baby’s pediatrician, and a quick blood test. The milk bank sends me collection supplies (milk bags, storage bottles, sanitizing bags etc) and a cooler to mail my milk in. You do have to be diligent about cleaning your pump parts and storing/labeling milk, but it’s a small amount of work compared to the huge reward of sharing the liquid gold 🤍
