I feel like there's a nice way to do things but my boss isn't doing it that way. She has no idea how hard things are on the floor and this is just another thing she's making us do. Should I quit?
I work in a little group home with several disabled adults. My boss is a nurse and whenever she comes in she tells us that the bathroom needs to look a certain way and we can't have their shower gels and all their toiletries and towels in there.
It is hard doing what we do all day with these adults. We don't always have time to tidy up and clean. Our last boss was like this too and rather than give us a break, our new boss comes in, points out everything wrong, tells us to fix it, and then just leaves. She doesn't help at all. She just comes in and gives orders.
When we were inspected of course she told the inspector about the bathroom and how each adult has their own powder room where their bathing supplies need to be stored but of course we just keep everything in the bathroom because why would we bring it back and forth? She says "oh cross contamination" but these people live together. Cross contamination isn't a thing when you live together!
So today she came in and cleaned everything up then took us to each adults powder room and showed us "I organized everything the way it needs to be done. All their things stay here unless they're having a bath" and then she took us to the bathroom and said "This is how the bathroom needs to look at all times". I told her this was just insulting and demeaning and she has no clue how it actually works.
It's their home. Of course we're going to leave towels in the bathroom and their shower gels and everything in the bathroom. We've done it for years this way and it's not going to change.
I want to stop being a CNA so bad but these adults need me and I'm also afraid of being fired. Every second I spend cleaning and tidying is time spent away from the people who need me. Does it get better?
Edit: I'm a great CNA and I love these people like family and I treat them like family. It takes at least ten minutes to clean up the bathroom after a shower or bath. That's time taken away from them. You don't clean everything after your shower so honestly, I don't see the issue here. It's time wasted.
