Anyone 35 years old +??

Question

I had my first OB yesterday. The nurse said I have to see a specialist because I’m considered high risk because of my age. She said this is just a precaution & that I would be receiving care from both throughout the pregnancy. As long as the testing comes back normal, I’ll deliver with my current OB and not with the high risk doctors at the other facility. Anyone else? I turned 35 in July & this is baby 6.

I'm 38, will be 39 when I have this baby. When I had my daughter at 36 they said I was considered a geriatric pregnancy.... I hate when they say that because it makes you sound so old, then they scare you about all the extra tests and things.

I think that’s totally crazy. It’s a way for them to make more money sending you to MFM.

37. ‘Advanced maternal age.’ They just offer more tests for chromosomal differences. MFM doesn’t deliver, they just monitor so they know what to be prepared for when your baby’s born.

I’m 36. This is my 4th. My OB and midwife both said I’m not high risk as this isn’t my first baby. So I will not be followed by MFM. Both said my pregnancy is very very low risk.

Im 41 my first appointment was a midwife and i was notified i will see a MFM doctor more than once during the course of my pregnancy because im over 35, ive been pregnant multiple times and have given birth multiple times. I was also told that due to all this factors i would be induced at 39 weeks. I know this is a touchy subject but i actual like this as I've been incuded in several of my pregnancies and since i don't live close to family it allows me to arrange child care for my 6 children with someone i trust and allows my husband to be present during labor and delivery. That age of 35 was chosen so long ago before NIPT and the advancements we have in ultrasounds. They really should take a look at that age and adjust it.

Hmm. I’m 37 and pregnant with my first. Tried for years and could not get pregnant. So this is a surprise. We just had our 2nd appt on Monday and OB says so far things look great and as of now, they do not consider me high risk. I did get bloodwork for genetic testing done Monday as well. We are still waiting on those results. Hoping for good news and a smooth pregnancy and delivery. You being 35 shouldn’t automatically make you high risk. Was bloodwork and everything normal? I wish you the best!

I’m 40 today. I’m just seeing my general doctor for basic OB care and will transfer for delivery

Whoa! I’m really surprised they’re having you see a specialist just because you’re 35!  Do you have any other risk factors?  
I’m 38 & 9 weeks with my 2nd. Had my first at 36 & never had to see a specialist with my first. Hopefully not needing one for my 2nd (going to do the NIPT & praying everything comes back normal), but they’re definitely not referring me just because I’m over 35!
