Would you go to small claims court over $500?
It’s a long story but I sold my car to someone for $12,500, and they scammed me out of the last $500. It was listed at $13,500 but I knew I would have to negotiate so I accepted $12,500.
I have been trying to contact them for the remaining $500 but they have blocked me. I have receipts and texts that clearly show what they owe and that they failed to pay it.
I know compared to the $12k, $500 isn’t a lot. But $500 is actually a lot of $ regardless and I have a toddler and baby on the way and that could buy a lot of diapers and food. Plus it was just what the agreement was.
My husband is ready to go to small claims court and recover the $. He has done this once before and it doesn’t seem like much work for us to do. He will have to take a half day from work probably but I’m on maternity leave.
The thing is that when he googled her name he found out the reason she bought the car is because her son crashed and totaled their old car and passed away. She hasn’t bought a car since then (that was in March so 5 months ago).
She works at a local business and lives in my town. I’m just not sure if we should pursue this.
