Not sure if this is allowed to be posted here, but I feel it needs to be shared.
When women are sexually assaulted, and go to either a crisis center or a hospital to get a rape kit done, there are a few things that never get spoken about.
After the initial trauma, doctors causing more trauma, I was then asked to hand over my clothing for evidence. I was instructed to shower. I remember sitting on the floor in the dark room, exhausted and humiliated. I looked to the counter at the clothes they had given me to wear.
I was given a bright pink sweater that smelled like rotten eggs, and a pair of old, valentines leggings to change into. Those clothes had been donated from goodwill, and had never been washed. That was when I cried for the first time.
Imagine having your choice taken away, and you then have to go home in someone's old and used clothes. Bright pink in the middle of July.
It was for some reason the part that stuck out to me the most.
Last year I posted a video to bring awareness to this issue, and was appalled by the tens of thousands of comments of women telling their stories in the comments. One girl even said she was sent home in a trash bag with ripped holes for her head and arms.
Some very close friends and I are about to launch a cause that will help change this narrative. Lunula Clothing will be a company that sells sweat sets. For every set that is purchased, we will be donating another sweat set in a care package with a handwritten note from a survivor.
These donations will be delivered to crisis centers and hospitals all over the country.
We can actually make a difference, and it starts by letting victims and past survivors know that they are not alone.
If you are interested in helping this cause, please add your email to lunulaclothing.com or comment on this post and I can add it to our prelaunch list. 🤍🩷
