Need advice

Could this be completely normal ?

I’ve been to the hospital about 2 times now for high BP over the last 5 or so weeks (I am 38 weeks) when I arrive they hook me up to fluids and give me medicine to lower my bp then send me on my way. They tell me if it happens again to come back.

I’ve brought up my BP to my dr at my last appointment 2 weeks ago and she didn’t even acknowledge my concerns.

(I have perfect BP normally, up until about 32 weeks I was a perfect 120/80 or lower)

I have been experiencing swelling in my feet and hands the last couple of days. I work from home & am on bed rest so I do nothing crazy throughout the day except maybe take my dogs for a short walk if it’s not too hot out.

I lay in bed with my feet propped up about 90% of the time as that’s what my dr has instructed me to do when I feel like my bp is high or when I take my bp and it’s high.

I feel like utter crap. It affects my vision most days, causing blurriness or spotting. I get dizzy and light headed and feel like my chest has hollowed out as it usually causes my HR to shoot through the roof.

What should I do? I feel like I am not being taken seriously as I am a FTM, but I know when something is not right with my body. And I can only imagine this puts some sort of stress on my daughter.

Rn my BP is resting at 130-140/100 since 5pm (it is now 9pm) do I go to L&D just for them to pump fluids and send me home? Can I demand to have someone run some sort of test to figure it out.

My next OB appointment isn’t for another 6 days, and they are not able to get me in any sooner at my normal location or any location near me.

They are not going to diagnose you with preeclampsia or probably just giving you blood pressure meds because your blood pressure although sometimes elevated it is not SEVERELY high. Your highest reading is only 144 that’s slightly higher than normal, if your blood pressure was 160/112 then that would be emergency. Also severely high blood pressure’s ACCOMPANIED with protein in urine will be a means to induce a baby. Because the protein in urine will tell you it’s preeclampsia not just a slightly elevated blood pressure by itself. And the swelling of feet in hands is not enough. Women who are at the end of their pregnancy tend to swell from retained fluids even without the high bp.

Elevated/high BP is anything 140/90 (either systolic or diastolic). You have multiple readings with either number over the 140/90. I would highly recommend going to the OB emergency room. Regular emergency wouldn’t know exactly how to treat these symptoms or can misdiagnose. Preeclampsia is very serious. Definitely advocate for yourself.

There is only two high readings on this whole BP chart. But due to symptoms and your BP fluctuating with some high readings, I’d go back.

I would definitely go to l&d for preeclampsia symptoms. I was told anything over /90 so if you’re getting a reading of /100 that’s high. You also have all the other symptoms - headache and vision issues. They should induce you. I would advocate for yourself as preeclampsia is serious

I am not a medical professional, but these sound like classic symptoms of preeclampsia. I would definitely head back to L&D and ask them to take you seriously. Maybe ask if you can see a different doctor?

It's important to advocate for your health. Given your symptoms and high blood pressure, it's crucial to seek medical attention. Head to Labor and Delivery to get evaluated. Request further tests to understand the underlying cause. Your health and your baby's well-being are the top priorities.
