Am I wrong about this?

Me and my husband were having a conversation and I don't know if there is anything in the medical field but I need to know something. Me and my husband are young. I'm 22. He just turned 22. He does not like going to the doctor. It's very hard to get him to go to the doctor because he's worried about Physicals. He's only ever had one physically when he wanted to play basketball he had to get a physical when he was 14. He knows Physicals are normal but it made him so uncomfortable he didn't want to do them anymore. Part of his physical was a prostate exam and he recounts it being extremely painful to the point there was a small amount of blood when he wiped. I'm not trying to scare my husband which is why I'm asking for medical professionals. I'm not a male but don't they not do prostate exams until you're in your 40's and why would they give one to someone just so they can play basketball? I feel pike this doctor was.... Weird for lack of better words. I even asked if he was sure this was just from a regular sports physical and he said yes. Is that normal? I don't want to freak my husband out and say I think he was actually molested if this is normal. I'm not a doctor. I'm not a male and don't have a prostate.

Edit: There weren't prostate concerns. It was just a physical for basketball. He's never had prostate issues.
