AITA— Kids and Loud Music
Edit to add: these are neighborhood kids, so I don’t know where they live or who their parents are. They come over from different parts of the neighborhood. My job is pretty much exclusively phone work so I can’t really afford to leave in the middle of the day to talk to these kids. That’s why I thought about calling a third party. I’ll write a nice note and tape it to the basketball hoop tonight.
I live next to a cul de sac and there’s a group of probably 6 kids who have set up a basketball court in the street. They’re probably anywhere from 14-18yo. I have no issues with them playing in the street, they’ve always been aware and keep out of cars ways. My issue is them BLASTING explicit rap music (they have a car with an audio system they blast it from) from about 2pm until sundown and most of the day on weekends. Every other word is fuck, the n word, drug references, derogatory names for women, etc. it’s not even good rap music lol. I work from home and I can hear the music in my house with all the windows closed and I live probably 50 yards from the cul de sac. There are some days it’s so loud the bass is shaking/rattling my windows. There is 0 reason it needs to be that loud.
There’s been really nice weather where I am and I want to be able to have my windows open while I work but I’m terrified of a client hearing this music while I’m in a meeting or a call. I have a 5 year old who is a sponge and is big into the “what does that mean” phase. When she got home the other day, no joke, the lyrics to the song was “fucked my n****as bitch like she a hoe at the mother fuckin club. Bitch ride the dick like a porn star” I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want my work to hear it. I don’t want my kid to hear it. And I sure as hell don’t want to have to explain it to my 5 year old.
I hate confrontation and don’t wanna seem like a total Karen so I’m tempted to call the non emergency police to see if they can just come give them a heads up to keep it down. by all means, I’m fine with them playing it at a reasonable volume, I just dont care to hear the n word every other minute. I feel like I can’t let my daughter play outside cause I don’t need her hearing that.
