End of a relationship

An
Anonymous

I fucked up. My boyfriend of 3 years left me. I fly back to my hometown with my son, who is 3, tomorrow. He’s known him since he was 6 months old. We weren’t together everyday but when he was around, he loved up my son like he was his own. (He’s not his biological father). My son loved him too, he calls him daddy. He doesn’t see his bio dad, he’s never been around.

I just feel so bad & sad, that my son is clueless that today is his last day/night with his “daddy”. He said he’s going to talk to him, a proper good bye, I hope my son understands. I’m sorry my boy, mama was stupid & fucked up. ☹️

That's why you shouldn't let boyfriends be "daddy". That's a very sad confusing situation for your child but what's done is done just learn from it and don't jump into anything new .

I’m sure this is hard on both him and your son. Maybe he’ll check in from time to time, but set that boundary so there isn’t confusion as he gets older and tries to comprehend what’s going one. Ask pedi for recommendations on how to explain this in an age appropriate way. The move and not seeing a constant in his life.

This will be a lesson for you. And sending you best wishes for this next chapter. Slow down and not try to find another “daddy”. Some people make this error and it becomes a toxic pattern
