I had been having extremely heavy bleeding and very painful periods since around February of this year. It started with my periods just getting longer. I was used to having a 3 day menstrual that I could set a clock by, but after a while everything started changing. I originally got the iud in 2021. Last month, the bleeding and pain was so much, I ended up urgent care 2x.

Will today was the day I was scheduled to see a new Obgyn to have it removed… only it came out on its own this morning. I was bleeding like crazy, like I could feel the blood coming out like it was poured out it seems. I was on the toilet cleaning myself up about to get into the shower. Felt something down there which seemed right at the opening of my vagina, but I knew I had removed my tampon already. I reached down to fell strings. I grabbed it and it literally came right on out. Almost immediately after, a ton of blood came. I was so scared. Luckily I was headed to an apt anyway. I was scared but relieved it was out. I dreaded this period starting because the pain landed me in urgent care. I have an ultrasound and follow up apt scheduled. I’ll know more or how I’ll proceed after the ultrasound.

I’ve decided to go completely off birth control for a while. My doctor advised to see if my body regulates and I’m so ok with that. Of course I’ll use other forms of protection like a condom if need, although I’m not really sexually actively.

Has this happened to anyone? What would you do? Or what have you done? I also have migraines with aura so that limits the kinds of bc I could take anyway.
