I am the second oldest of 13 kids so naturally, I'm basically another parent. I have to watch my siblings, drive them around. Help with homework, cook dinner. Etc etc. Before me it was my oldest brother doing this and he left in the middle of the night and has been exiled from our family because of the situation he left our family in. I work and my entire pay check goes to my family. I graduate through online school and graduated early. I made straight A's. My SAT's were in the 1500's. I did really good. I qualify for this colleges honors program which means they cover EVERYTHING accept the meal plan. Textbooks, room, board, tuition. EVERYTHING. But my parents don't want me to go. I could literally go for the spring semester but they said I would be pulling a Jordan. My brother. They told me I would be leaving them high and dry and to wait until my last sibling is in middle school first. Well my last sibling is 4 months old.... And that's if I don't have anymore. I did a HUGE no no and contacted my brother for advice... He said if I don't leave I will stuck there. I will never leave. He said he's never been happier and he was so close to taking his life when it was nothing besides being a parent and he never got a childhood. If I leave I will also be exiled from my family. My brother does not regret leaving and he's happy he did so. I know aome will say just go to community college and stay with my parents but I want to be on my own. I know I would be screwing over my family. They lose me as their sitter. They lose my income. They lose a lot ... But I don't want my whole life to be about taking care of my siblings
