Are teachers just allowed to QUIT during the school year?!

Kind of panicking. My daughter's 5th grade teacher quit yesterday. Idk everything. Just that he was hit by a chair by one of the students. Someone was watching the class. He came in. Said he cared very much about all of them. Took his stuff and walked out! Kind of interesting to say that when you walked out! I'm concerned because my daughter is autistic and needs routine and isn't grade with change. It's clear they're gonna have to have a sub everyday. And the subs in our area don't even need a college degree! So they won't be learning! How is she supposed to learn?! Why are students constantly being pushed to the side? My daughter needs school and would NOT benefit from homeschooling. Aren't teachers contracted? To be allowed to walk out on students in the middle of the semester should be ILLEGAL! 😡😡😡

Parents like you are why they quit!!! Another entitled selfish parent. I know plenty of people with college degrees who are morons, a sub with be fine, but it’s early enough in the school year they may get a replacement teacher or a long term sub.

Why are teachers expected to get hit by chairs for no pay or help what so ever? Why should that teacher stay? This was probably the teachers last straw. Teachers are humans, not machines.

I am a high school teacher and college professor. Teachers do not deserve to be abused. We don’t sign up for that when we teach. We don’t sign up to be dehumanized, abused, and mistreated. Our safety and mental health is more important than staying in a job where students won’t face consequences.  It’s not about you or your child. Have you ever had a desk or chair thrown at you? I have. My district gives consequence to students that do that but many don’t.  Most places require long term substitutes to have at least an associate or bachelor degree. 
Parents like you understand nothing about the education system. Parents like you are uneducated and ignorant. If it worries you so much, homeschool her. She will survive. You can care about your students while saving yourself from an abusive career. It’s legal to quit. Unless you’re willing to homeschool her and create a lesson plan that fits all of her needs, sit down and shut up.

Yeah. Teachers are allowed to quit their jobs, just like anyone else. And it doesn’t mean they don’t care about the students. By 5th grade your daughter should have an IEP and her needs would be accommodated outside of a regular ed room. I’m sure they will fill the position with a permanent teacher as soon as possible, and a long term sub can follow a state curriculum. If you’re that concerned I’m sure you can contact the principal or superintendent.

Get over yourself. No one should ever be expected to stay at a job where they aren’t being treated right. The teacher clearly had enough so there had to have been other things that happened before this.

I get your concern for your daughter. Since she relies on routine, having a sub will be difficult on her. But teachers and people too. They can quit their job when they want. This will be a great opportunity for your daughter to learn some flexibility.

With all due respect, your child's needs are not more important than the teacher's safety. We are not obligated to take physical abuse to put the students first. And the fact that you see the teacher as someone there to serve your family instead of a person is part of the problem. 
Also, it's not like teachers are paid in a lump sum to teach the whole year. In some places they're paid monthly, others more frequently. A contract can be broken by either party at any time. Usually there are some stipulations, in some situations a teacher may have to pay to get out of their contract, but if that's what the school is like it sounds like it would be with paying to get out.

You can quit any job that isn’t benefiting you. My 10th grade biology teacher quit like 6 weeks before school ended because she found out her contract wasn’t getting renewed.

I feel for your daughter but this post really shows how little you appreciate the VERY important role and job of teachers
No one, and I mean NO ONE can be forced to work, specially under those conditions. Everybody has a right to feel secure in their work environment and quit if they don’t feel like it￼, otherwise that’s just slavery.
I get the your child has a special need and maybe things might get a little more hard for you at home with her, but please, show a little compassion. What if it was you who got smacked with a chair, would you stay there willingly? Would you endure that kind of abuse towards you and do nothing about it?
