BBT stands for basal body temperature, which is a person's body temperature when they are fully at rest. Tracking BBT can help determine when a woman is ovulating, which can help her identify when she is most likely to get pregnant. BBT can also be used to detect early pregnancy.

Opks are used to let you know when your body is getting ready to ovulate by detecting the LH surge. After your first positive opk signifying a surge in LH you should listen within 12 to 48 hours. This is helpful in timing sex and making sure you don't miss your window. 
BBT is used to confirm ovulation. It confirms ovulation after it has already happened so it's helpful in making sure the LH surge did trigger ovulation since you can have a surge and not ovulate. It also helps pinpoint the day of ovulation more than a 48 hour window.
