Measuring weeks behind?

Toni

Hi all.

Below is a picture of a private ultrasound scan that I had at the end of November 2024, according to my LMP I was 6+2 at the time of the scan, however I was measuring at 5+2 and could not hear a heartbeat (early private scan was booked following a previous ectopic and wanting reassurance that this one wasn’t). I was told that it was probably too early to pick up a heartbeat and was advised to come back for a follow up scan two weeks later.

At 7+4 days (according to my LMP) I started experiencing spotting and mild cramps and was sent to the hospital by my GP for an ultrasound scan.

I was told again that there was no heartbeat and that the fetal pole was measuring only 0.4mm bigger than my previous scan 9 days prior. The sonography stated that it might just be too early for a heartbeat to be detected. Or it could be signs of an early failed pregnancy (miscarriage).

I know that there will be differences between machinery used by the private scan place and the NHS and I’m hoping that this is the reason why the NHS scan did not pick up anything in as much detail. However I realise that I need to be realistic that it could be bad news.

Has anybody ever measured several weeks behind their LMP estimate before?

Or has anybody ever been in a similar situation?

TIA
