Boyfriend won’t talk to me about future engagement

I’ve been with my boyfriend for three years. I don’t expect him to drop down on one knee and propose already but we are living together and he doesn’t want to get married in the next two years. I don’t want to wait around playing house for the next 10 years with no ring… I moved in because I love him and I know I want to be with him for the rest of my life. I understand he may not be ready NOW but when I ask him if he thinks we might get engaged in 2026 he tells me he’s not ready and won’t let me talk about it at all. Then why is he so ready to live together and act like we are married? I don’t understand it. Is it really that normal to live together for years without being engaged? And I even told him we don’t have to get married right away I just would prefer us to be engaged in the next few years because we live together. I’m serious about marriage and take relationships the more traditional way so I don’t understand if this is just a normal thing for other people. He tells me he knows he wants to marry me he’s just not ready. I don’t understand why because he won’t communicate with me at all. If he did I may understand why. I’m
