Should i believe him?

Ive been knowing my ex? For maybe 5 years been together for 2. He broke up with me once before, days before my bday ( said he was arrested for somwthing he did years before me ) took a while before we dated again and AGAIN this year he went missing... no text or anything (again days before my bday) i had reached out to his friend and he said he went to visit family in mexico. Why does his friend know but didnt tell me anything?? His little brother reached out to me on playstation messages and said he got into an accident and got a head injury. Dont know if i believe it so after that i havent replied back. He recently reached out again and said he couldnt wait to go on the trip we were supposed to go for my bday. ( i didnt reply) again the next day they said hed be back home in 3 weeks. I have not replied back and dont think i will until he explains everything. What would you guys do? Would u believe he was in an accident or do i just tell him ive moved on ? Hes been gone since november.
