I think I hate my mom

Elizabeth

I don’t know

I do love her, but she’s just always wanting to be with me, talk to me, wants me to come over.

I’m married and 26, and spend at least 2 days a week at their house with my husband.

My mom has quite a few rare illnesses, all taking a toll on her body so I understand she misses me, but she’s has another child she doesn’t bug because that’s her son. Not her daughter.

She talks to me about all her issues like I’m her best friend but I’m not. She has two “best friends” but she never put effort to keep it alive, just them. I don’t want to know how much my dad pisses her off or how much she hates him. For 20 years she’s told me their issues and I don’t wanna hear it.

I’d feel like an asshole except she’s been this way before she got sick. I couldn’t have a social life in college because she couldn’t be separated from me. She cried and even begged me to drop out. She actually wanted me to commute at first, a 40 min drive.

She also insisted I go to therapy and after my first session she called my therapist and told her that after the sessions she wanted to know what was said because “she’s a pathological liar and I want to double check everything” my mom was pissed when she said no and even madder when she found out the doctor told me.

She hates my husband, as he has never liked how she treats me or my father, and because he doesn’t like her and we are more traditional, she thinks he hates women. When we got engaged, she was pissed because she wasn’t involved, and wouldn’t speak to me for a month, and then went right back to normal.

She’s constantly texting me asking me to come hang out but I hate seeing her, once a month is fine with me, because she wants me to stay all day and even spend the night sometimes.

She came from a weird cult like family where they worshipped the parents and she thinks I need to be like that, but for some reason I’ve always lacked empathy to my mom.
