Court gave my baby daddy back custody
Months ago I made a post about how my baby daddy lost custody of our daughter who's 5 now. He automatically got custody of her because I was in jail when I had her. By the time I got out she already had a life without me and in my mind I didn't want to disturb that. Dumb. I know. I was being a deadbeat mom. He lost custody to CPS because he relapsed. Before I was pregnant me and my daughters dad used to do drugs together. He quit and was sober 6 years. Then his brother died and he relapsed. He got charged with drug possessions and doing drugs in front of a minor. After he completed everything they dropped his charges. They were giving him 6 months to make improvements and if he didn't they would see about giving her to me and if after a year his rights could be terminated. She was in foster care and I was having visits with her and had to prepare for her to go with me. I know some people asked why I didn't take my daughter and I couldn't because this is what the court wanted and I was a stranger to her. The foster parents may have also been strangers but my guess is my criminal record played a part in why they did things this way instead of just putting her in my custody. Their goal was always to put her back with her dad. Especially since that's where she wanted to be but we've built a relationship. Yesterday the court gave him back custody because he's completed drug group, parenting and the other stuff he was supposed to do. They're having next week to close the case and we also have court that week to talk about MY custody situation. Since we live in different states I'm just trying to figure out what that could look like because I do want to be in her life. I'm just trying to navigate this.
