Brushing Teeth

So weird and random question...when do you brush your child's teeth, as soon as they wake up/first thing in the am or after they eat breakfast? My husband and I are having a debate because I always have our 5 year old son do it first thing in the morning (use potty, wash hands, brush teeth then go downstairs and eat breakfast). My husband says he wants him to brush after eating breakfast so he has a fresh mouth for school and for the day. I feel like days he is getting him ready he can do it his way and when I'm getting him ready I can do it mine. I have read from the ADA you should brush upon waking or wait at least 30 minutes after eating to brush as right after can erode the enamel but I'm curious what other parents do and why.
