My Twin Birth Story !! It was perfect! ❤️❤️

Savannah

My twin girls are currently 2 1/2 months now and having a toddler who just turned 2 you can imagine my hands have been full. Nonetheless I wanted to share my birth story for those of you who want to have some reassurance or just read another good experience. I was due for 12/30 but my doctor said second week of December was probably around when I would deliver. Last week of November I am just having a really hard time. I could barely move, extremely exhausted, nose bleeds, vomiting again, and started swelling up really bad. I also started gaining a huge amount of weight the last couple of weeks, which I was able to maintain a healthy weight gain the entire time so this was a red flag for me. My OB had ran blood work and the results were concerning so they sent me to the hospital to stay over night to be monitored for preeclampsia. I went home the next day to wait for my results. I was just a couple of numbers off of having preeclampsia so they wanted me to wait a couple of days and come back to get tested for another time. Came back and turns out I had severe preeclampsia and had to deliver, they kept me from that point. Now throughout my whole pregnancy I was determined to have a vaginal delivery. I had a great experience with my first daughter and wanted to go that route again. I had placenta previa and the babies kept flipping (in my state Baby A must be head down to deliver vaginally) so it was up in the air for a long time. Thankfully my placenta was able to fix itself and was no longer an issue. Day of delivery it was in the afternoon when I arrived to the hospital my husband was at work so my sister accompanied me as well as my daughter until my husband could arrive. Everything happened pretty quickly I was already 2cm dilated when I arrived. They got me hooked up and inserted a foley balloon to speed dilation up. They told me that the balloon would fall out when it was dilated enough. So the wait began. I was given Pitocin to help the contractions. At this point I was feeling pretty good I was breathing through the contractions they were very painful but manageable. The balloon came out while the dr was checking me and I decided to get my epidural as fast as possible because things were going really fast. My husband finally arrived and my sister and daughter went home. I told my dr that I felt like I needed to push and I couldn’t hold it any longer. (I had to deliver in the operating room just in case it didn’t go to plan. ) They transferred me and right away baby a came out with a couple of pushes. Born 12/04 at 3:57am weighing 5.4 oz 10 mins later and a couple more pushes baby b came out at 4:07 weighing 4.12 oz. The most beautiful babies. They were and are perfectly healthy. They were so tiny but no NICU stay. I had to stay in the high risk room and get medication to help with the preeclampsia so my stay was a bit longer but I was more than ready to get home with all my girls. The swelling was horrible I mean I was not recognizable. My body was a completely different shape and it took weeks to go down. The healing post partum was great and I was close to myself pretty quickly. This is also with me doing everything almost completely by myself. My husband had to go back to work a week after they were born which was only about 2 days after I got back home and I don’t have much family. I was so scared about delivery. Almost everything I read was c sections and there’s no problem with a c section but I knew my help was limited and healing from a major surgery like that was going to be so much harder on my body. I had to advocate for myself with my ob. She was pushing me toward a c section and that’s just not what I wanted. I ended up having the on call doctor delivery my twins and she was a absolute dream. I know this is a long one and kinda all over the place but I hope it helps ease some of y’all’s minds. P. S to all the mothers expecting twins especially for the first time, y’all got this! Stay strong, everything will be okay. It’s worth it😊😊
