Looooong period

So this is out of the normal for me! I have seen a dr and am waiting for my gyno appointment. However, since January I have not had a period shorter that 14 days, they have progressively gotten longer and longer. My period started on the 7th of March. By the 4th of March I had had enough and went and seen my dr again who has put me on the pill to try and see if it regulates. I’ve been taking the pill now for 7 days AND IM STILL BLEEDING! WTAF is this normal? To be still bleeding after starting the pill? How much longer should I expect this to keep going? I am so far over it!! Any help is appreciated in terms of starting birth control and how long it usually takes to stop bleeding 🩸
