Was it common for parents to tell them how to vote in the local elections?

I was on my neighborhood Facebook page and they’re discussing the school district budget, and arguing about voting ‘yes’ or ‘no’. It triggered this memory that I have where every year from when I was voting age (18 years old) my mom would order my siblings and I to vote ‘yes’ and tell us who to vote for for superintendent or whatever other offices were being voted for. She’d make us memorize the names. She filled out absentee ballots for us without telling us, and did until I changed my address on my licensese after living out of town for 10 years

She was a teacher and then principal in the districtct so of course she was biased.

Is this weird?? Seeing that people are actually voting ‘no’ for the budget surprised me.
