Would I know if a bat was in my house?

Question

I have the biggest fear of bats and will try to not go out at night. Will I know if there was a bat in my house/ garage? Or would I feel if I was ever bit or landed on me?

You would be able to know but that isn't likely. We had a house where bats had gotten into the attic. They won't bite you or land on you. They will avoid you as much as possible. They are probably more scared of you than you are of them. In lots of states you can't kill them so if you suspect that you have bats you'd have to have someone come out and take care of them.

There’d definitely be signs like you’d hear noises, scratching, fluttering, chirping and obviously seeing a bat flying around at night etc. Just don’t leave any doors or windows open at night. You’d also notice if a bat bit you while awake, it would have to land on you to bite you and you’d definitely notice. I have this fear too and it’s related to my anxiety so I’d suggest therapy and/or medication if you’re not doing that already

We have tons of bats where I live and they live in our roof tiles. People leave windows open overnight here and Ive never once heard of them getting into the house. Theyre super shy animals and try to avoid people, they dont try to get in like bugs or mice.

If you have a fear and it’s impacting your life, get therapy. Bats can get in to homes that have open attic vents and eaves, chimney with no protection, open windows with no screen, etc. Pest proof your home. 
If you ever have any contact or suspected contact with a bat- get medical attention. If a bat is ever in your house- get medical attention. Always assume contact if you find a bat in your home or have any contact elsewhere and get medical attention. 
Is this likely, no. But having basic knowledge and pest proofing helps. Bats are great animals. They’re good for the environment and don’t want to bother you.

We have lots of bats living in my neighborhood. I watched them fly around at dusk.￼ I don't have them living in my house as far as I know, so I could not tell you what an infestation would be like. And if they are living here, we do not have any signs of it. I did have one fly through a window that I accidentally left open without a screen on it. I was sitting on my couch, it flew toward my head, hit the wall above my head and flew the other direction into my kitchen and landed on one of those water dispensers that looks like an old-fashioned jug and has a little metal handle that hangs down. It was just hanging from the little metal handle. Where my partner at the time simply picked up the entire jug and placed it out the window and the bat flew away. ￼
