When is it ok to take newborn out in public?

Right now we have kept our newborns exposure to public places at a minimum. He is one week old and a couple days. I know keeping him inside is what’s best to protect him against germs and illnesses but some days are difficult for me because I’m used to going out and doing what I want to do. 
So that leads me to be sad and down when I can’t go outside like I used to. Idk if there’s an exact age everyone started to go outside with their newborn? It’s also hard because my bf’s family keeps insisting the baby has to stay inside for now and I really dislike that because in a way it’s like waiting for their okay to take the baby out and only god knows when that would be. Who knows maybe they’re planning on saying the baby has to stay inside until he is one years old. So any recommendations as to when baby can go out in public?

I was walking around target with my newborn when she was like 48 hours old. Went immediately from the hospital to target to pick up some things. Obviously she stayed in her carrier and was not being passed around. She was a summer baby so we were outside almost constantly after she was born.

Just going outside, like on a walk? We never avoided that with our babies. Going out in public to high-touching places, like an aquarium or play ground, we avoided until the first round of vaccinations. But we never avoided being outside with our babies. We’d go to restaurants and general things like that, just brought sanitizing wipes to wipe down anything before our baby could get their mouth on it (more so around 4+ months, since as newborns they don’t stick things in their mouth as much).

You can take her out now. A baby carrier is perfect for this because she stays close to you and no one can touch or hold her unless you allow them.
