Would you let your daughter draw with her finger in the dirt while on a walk?

JK

I know, strange question, but on a nature walk today, I was really questioning whether to let her do this and why I was questioning it.

We were on a fam walk through the forest along a creek. It was a little muddy, but not too bad.

Our 3 yr old daughter every couple mins would stop and with her finger, start to draw in the dirt. At first, I was like “use this stick, rock… find something else other than your finger. This is the walking path”

But then I realized she’s drawing and why am I interrupting that. What’s the harm? No.. she isn’t putting her fingers right in her mouth. We will wash our hands when we get back to the bathrooms. there was nothing unsafe or dirty… just mud

I thought I would ask you all your opinions?

My husband and I also differ on this. He has trouble letting our kid gets messy… always worrying about it. I think it can be very detrimental. We’ve talked about this and he is getting better. I also find myself fighting this too not as much as my husband and having to remind myself to not intrude on their play and creativity
