How many newborn outfits is enough?

Question

This isn’t my first time but it’s been a long time . I haven’t bought anything for baby and I’m 30 weeks . How many NB should I buy? How many outfits do you all buy or do you kinda buy as you go ? I have two Lafayette bundles in my Amazon cart which is 12 outfits altogether along with socks, mitten, hats, burp blanket, etc. also where are some affordable places to purchase baby clothes and get the most for your money online. (My anxiety won’t let me store shop)

I shop all 2nd hand stores for my babies clothing. Goodwill and once upon a child are my best friends. I can’t give you a number because I probably went a little over board shopping because everything is so cheap and cute lol. The good thing is, is that I had my 1st son and then got pregnant with my 2nd son just 5 months postpartum. So whatever doesn’t fit my son anymore will now fit the new baby. I think I bought around like 12 zip up sleepers total cause my 1st son basically lived in those. I would say it also depends on where you live and how big your baby is at birth. My son only fit in newborn size for like 3 weeks. He was 7lbs. 15oz. at birth.

I’m on my 3rd baby. You honestly don’t need that many NB size bc they grow so quickly. I’d recommend buying a handful and then buy more you need. In the first few weeks I only keep them in zipper onesies or gowns since you’re changing diapers so frequently (I love the parade organics gown— I have three that I’ve re-used for every kid). Old navy clearance/sale section online is amazing for deals and cheap onesies and decent quality.

I dont fo out either due to anxiety.. i do all of my shopping online, and have 3 sizes ready. I have a few preemie because all of my babies have fit into preemie size. I have close to 8 pj, and the same for pants and shirts and a few dresses in nb. And 0-3 mo. I have about 10 pj, 10 onsies, 8 to 10 pants... i like having more than necesarry because babies spit up, they have bm that get on clothing and i dont want to have to do laundry sper of the moment because o ran out. In face i may get a few more pjs because it is an easy change out.

I gaged my amount of outfits based off how often I want to do laundry in the first week haha.  Basically if I have enough outfits that I can get away with only doing laundry once then I’m good 😂 working smarter not harder

We are grateful to have a friend with a baby boy who’s 3 months so we got majority of our newborn clothing from them, along with a couple items gifted at our baby shower. Outside of that though, we found an event called Just Between Friends which essentially is a pop up consignment store for all things kids (clothing, toys, strollers, etc), they have locations across the US (not sure which country you’re in). We got 20-25 0-3 month clothing items for under $30 and some were even new with the tags on. I’m a first time mama but totally agree with not going overboard on newborn because you don’t know how long or even if you’re baby will fit into newborn clothing, until they’re born.

My first child lived in sleepers (with zippers) for the newborn stage. Outfits were a waste because we didn’t really have any reason to wear them. I would have 5-10 sleepers on hand and maybe a few onesies for warmer days. I would not invest in a ton of outfits until they get bigger.

With my first, I only had 5 NB t-shirt body suits. He was born right before a terrible heatwave though and temps indoors were upwards of 30 C. He was in this and sometimes a muslin swaddle. He was born at almost 9 lbs and didn't lose much weight if at all. He was out of them by 2 weeks. This time, I bought 3 or 4 sleep suits in NB size since it'll be a May baby

I ended up having to buy more bc my baby was smaller than I expected and we also would discard some outfits if there were blowouts I didn’t want to deal with. I planned to get as few as possible and do a bunch of laundry and then once the baby was here, I was like eff that, let me just have plenty of clothes. I definitely did a lot of Amazon ordering and luckily it only takes a couple days to arrive so I had what I needed quickly.

My first baby wasn’t in NB clothing at all. My second was in them for 2 or 3 weeks. I wouldn’t purchase that many until your baby comes and you know how much they weigh
