Birthing classes?

How many people are and aren’t taking birthing classes? I feel like it’s a lot of money and I’m thinking about just winging it😂 I have 4 sisters that have kids that haven’t taken classes and I think they can teach me a lot of things also my mom and boyfriends mom as well. So I feel like I wouldn’t need to take the classes. Although I know I’ll learn so much but I don’t think I should be spending my money on that. What are your guys thoughts on birthing classes?

I took them with my first. It honestly wasn’t anything you can’t find on the internet. If you’re tight on cash, don’t worry about the classes. You can find videos on YouTube for labor breathing exercises, and spinning babies is a great free website for physically preparing for birth.

I didn’t take any classes when I had my first in 2006. Baby’s going to come either way. In my opinion, you can take all the classes in the world but your never going to know what to expect until it’s happening. This is #4 for me and every delivery was different.

I thought they were very helpful with my first. The hospital where I was getting midwifery care had them for free though. I'm really not sure I would've paid to go. And I chose not to attend any special classes about hypnobirthing etc even though I wanted a medication free birth. It's up to you. If you're self-disciplined, you can easily get all the info for free by reading any well respected/informed book about pregnancy. I personally liked the Mayo Clinics guide to a healthy pregnancy best. Don't underestimate the "right after birth" chapters. That was some of the most useful stuff we learned in birthing classes too.

I would suggest podcasts - especially the hypnobirthing podcasts! I winged it with my first and ended up in a c-section, and was a lot more informed with my second and got my VBAC. The hypnobirthing podcasts are amazing.
