Awaiting first scan…

Hello all! First time momma-to-be here. I’m currently 10 weeks 1 day pregnant, based on my LMP. I was just hoping to get some reassurance/opinions from some other mommas here on the (what feels like torturous) wait for the first ultrasound scan.

So far I’ve had 2 nurse visits (at 6W and 9W) confirming pregnancy with a urine test, running some blood work and obtaining information. But I haven’t gotten any doppler or ultrasound scans yet 😕

Has this been anyone else’s experience? I ask because I see SO many scan pictures/posts on here from people 6-10 weeks along, and this wait I have until my 12 week scan feels like pure torture!

I’ve had pretty moderate symptoms (sore breasts, nausea, fatigue, acne, cramps, etc) thus far… and the nausea started improving around 9 weeks which I’ve read is normal. I try to focus on symptoms being a good thing and keep a positive mindset. But with missed miscarriages being fairly common, I have a lot of anxiety over the unknown. I also have a minor heart defect myself, so that increases my anxiety.

Long story long, I guess I’m just hoping to hear from some of you other mommas about your stories and experiences… anyone else in the same/similar boat?

This is very typical for the UK. 12 week scan and 20 week scan normal

I am in the same boat and am 10wks and 2 days I don’t have my first appointment with my OB until April 14. I am going crazy because I swear with my first two I seen my OB much sooner in the pregnancy. I find myself questioning if I am even pregnant lol then I smell something bad and vomit and I’m like oh there it’s is lol. I’m struggling to make it to my first appointment also I am just so antsy but we are so close.

My scan is April 13th! What’s you’re due date? I’m 10 weeks 2 days today too 😊 My LMP math says I’m due 10/25. Sounds like we might be due date buddies! It’s nice to know there are others in the same situation. I know what you mean about not feeling pregnant at times… my nausea has gone away, but the sore boobs/fatigue/emotions keep me going lol Like you said, we are so close! Only 2 weeks away now… I’ll be crossing all my fingers and toes for us both! 🤞🏼

It was supposed to be the same for me but I accidentally booked my ultrasound too early and ended up having one at 9w4d (long story short I thought I was 10w and didn't know I had to be 12w to test for things like FTS). I didnt have my request with me when they called and I assumed they had the dates figured out since they also had my request but nope lol. Still happy I went because i got to see baby and see the heart beat so i guess it worked out for me in the end lol. My next one, which was supposed to be my first one, is going to be at 12 weeks. I feel you, I was also worried sick but all is well with baby. My nausea started getting better around 9w too. You could always try a walk-in ultrasound clinic if you want to ease your mind! <3

I have an ultrasound machine at home, where (roughly) are you located?

Pay for a private scan? In the NHS the first scan is 12 weeks so pretty normal for me but we can pay for earlier scans. I am UK

Ah I see. Well, you are sooo so close to 12 weeks, and the baby will look so big and beautiful! You can do it!! As long as you’re not having spotting/bleeding, paired with lower back pain and cramps, I would say you are just fine and baby is growing perfectly 💓

Bummer! Our US machine is for musculoskeletal stuff so it can only reach I think 11cm deep max. From what I’ve read that should be deep enough… but I’m nervous to use it on my own without guidance from a more seasoned US tech. Plus just general fear of finding something bad… I have the same fear for our first scheduled US. Trying to stay positive… just anxious!
