Clothes smell like outside after drying?

How can I help this? Our dryer is up against an exterior wall, so the vent hose thing is super short like only a foot long. With it warming up outside, I've noticed our clothes smell like outside when I pull them out of the dryer. They just don't smell clean. I don't use any sort of scent booster in the wash or any dryer sheets, and don't necessarily want to, but do you think that would help? All I use is Arm&Hammer detergent (it's scented, but not overly scented) and sometimes vinegar if the laundry is really dirty or smells bad. We just moved in this house in the fall, so this is new to me. My dryer has always been more toward the middle of the house, so there was much more space between the dryer and the exterior vent. -Edit- it's not my washer. I clean it regularly and my clothes smell clean when they come out of the washer. I know it is because of the location of the dryer and exterior vent. I open the dryer and I can smell the outside. In the winter, the clothes and inside of the dryer would be freezing because it was freezing outside.
