do you think my coworker likes me?
he has this very outgoing personality where he teases people a lot and is extremely extroverted in general, so not sure if it is me or if he is like this with everyone.
when we first met and I first started at that office, we would talk for hours. he found out that we were the same age and he was getting to know me seriously. he found out I had a boyfriend so he began dating someone else (lol don't judge me we are broken up now!). then he got comfortable and started teasing me a lot and sometimes it was plain mean RIP.
then one day, he seemed really distressed and was talking to another male coworker about a girl that he worked with and how things being awkward how he is trying to be professional. there was only three of us in the room and I overheard the convo while I was working on my computer: I THOUGHT HE IS TALKING ABOUT ME and got really worried. so I came over and said, hey I overheard and don't mean to pry but is everything okay? he told me, I will tell you later. eventually later came, and he told me how before I came to the office, he was dating another coworker for like 2 or 3 years but they broke up during the pandemic. he said that she would get really angry about things, and that he was going through a tough time with a family member dying from cancer. he decided to break up with her. he said he still has a soft spot for her but she is moved on quick after their breakup and within two months, she was in another relationship with another guy. he started thinking about her now a year later bc she would reach out to him via text and would start telling him "what happened between us?" aside from the relationship, they used to be really good friends. he wanted to maintain a happy working relationship /friendship because they were basically ignoring each other in the office and it would make things awkward for everyone that knew what happened. I was confused bc I thought he was dating someone new, but he told me that he ended things bc they met on a dating app and their connection was not deep.
long story short, I gave him advice to go and talk to her. I also gave him advice regarding his feelings for her and other specifics in their relationship and gave him some support in the situation. I told him that I am rooting for them and if he decides to wait for her. he told me, he might not wait for her because what if another girl comes by. he essentially was confiding with me and told me that only I know this much of what happened and to not tell other coworkers. I told him I am here for him if he needs anything. he started asking about my bf and said "he must be a really great guy." I said "yes" but the truth was at the time, my bf just emotionally cheated on me by texting another girl on a dating app and I was trying to hide my sadness.
next day, we went back into the office and he was back to teasing me like usual and was being kind of mean. now that I think of it, it might have been because of how he was unhappy that I had a boyfriend.
months later, him and his ex have a happier working relationship and she is still with her new boyfriend. my coworker is setting up boundaries and not texting her as much and only for work because she still has feelings for him and he wants to respect her new bf and would even show me their text threads.
one time, I told him over a group lunch with coworkers that I was going to a part of town to meet with my cousins. he told me that he lives there and wanted to come by and hangout with us after his shift so he came with another one of my coworkers who was also working the shift. it was really fun and he keeps urging me to move out to his town and it was so cool that I was there bc I live like 2 hours away. he also called me after we all hung out and was on the road bc he said that it was awesome to hang out and that he did not want to overstep with inviting himself to hang out with me and my cousins when we are in town again (bc he did that a few times that night). he told me he was joking but I told him that he is always welcome to join us.
sorry that was really long!! do you think he likes me?
