Why do some women seem high or out of it with an epidural ?

Is there more drugs than just numbing? What happens with an epidural? I don’t want to be high when I meet my baby. However, I am considering the small possibility for an epidural after my first delivery (natural) was incredibly excruciating for me and I think I have PTSD although nothing even went wrong. I’m terrified of labor.

I felt so much relief for no longer being in agony(5 day labour) I think it’s also extreme emotions and fatigue mixed together that create that ‘high’ appearance

I think some people are just more sensitive to the epidural.  I was not high with mine and fully recommend it now having had both experiences.

I never felt high, but maybe relaxed since I stopped feeling all that pain.

Sometimes they mix very mild fentanyl into the epidural. You can request without it (I did!)
